Bases
A firm top divan provides a strong flat surface on which to place your mattress. Divan bases come as a 14” deep divan or a 6” divan base with either fixed legs or screw in legs on castors. Drawer divans are available on the 14” deep divan. These give you storage options that allow an easy way to access the space beneath your bed.Stowaway divans turn the space under your bed into a perfectly sized home for a spare bed that can be pulled out from the side. The spare bed stands on a folding frame and can either stand alone or be purchased with a zip and link mattress to join it to the main bed.

Mattress Types
Open coil means an engineered spring unit of at least 190 individual springs, bound together and edged to give an even support and a long mattress life.
Pocket sprung mattresses are made of smaller springs than open coil mattresses and each spring is enclosed in a fabric tube so that it works individually of the other springs in the mattress, eliminating roll together.
Memory foam was developed by NASA to respond to individual shape and pressure before being used in hospitals to reduce pressure sores. In modern beds it provides optimum whole body support.
Mattress fillings
The insulation, fillings and padding between the spring unit and the cover can be made from lambs wool, cotton, memory foam or felts and pads of various materials. The choice and combination of these fillings is what makes the difference between a firm bed that you can still sink into and one that holds you on a more taught surface.
Mattress Covers
This fabric is called ticking and is chosen to give qualities such as a silky feel, a warmer feel or an easy to clean surface.
Mattress Buttons
Modern mattress buttons are actually felted discs called tufts, which hold in place strong tapes, called jiffies. Jiffies are threaded through the mattress, securing each layer of filling into place. A tufted mattress has a traditional dimpled surface and gives a firmer feel than a quilted mattress.
Quilted Covers
A mattress covered in quilted ticking has a more luxurious feel than a tufted mattress and without the jiffies compressing the fillings and spring unit, a quilted mattress will be more responsive to the sleeper’s position.
Comfort Levels
As a rule, the heavier you are, the firmer a mattress you need to give you sufficient support; this is why children and adults need different types of mattress. However, comfort is also determined by what you are used to and expect of a bed, any medical conditions and simply what feels best. We recommend that every prospective buyer and anyone else who will be using the bed, lie fully stretched on a bed, turn over and move around, and try this on a few different models to work out what suits you.
