How To Remove Stains

If you can, you should remove stains as soon as they happen. It may still be possible to remove older stains but the process is easier when they're new.

You'll need the following:

  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar per litre of warm water
  • Cheap bar of soap
  • Microfibre cleaning cloth
  • Toothbrush
  • Clean dry towel
  1. If your stain is a fresh spillage, blot up as much as possible.
  2. Mix your water and white vinegar solution.
  3. Wet the microfibre cloth and wring it out, so it's just damp.
  4. Rub the soap onto the cloth.
  5. Give the stain a good scrub with the cloth. If it's a stubborn stain, use the toothbrush.
  6. Rinse the cloth in water, wring it out and rub over the stain again to remove any soap suds. You may need to repeat this process a few times, especially for older or darker stains.
  7. Rub the patch dry with a clean, dry towel. This will help soak up any remaining moisture.
  8. Leave your mattress to air dry completely before re-making your bed.

Be sure to read your mattress care instructions before you get to work on stain removal as some mattresses have any water based cleaning products on them.
